Spring Forum

Bring the field to AWSP, and we'll bring AWSP to the field. During the forum, we'll listen to your ideas and concerns. We'll start with updates from Executive Director Dr. Scott Seaman and Governmental Relations and Advocacy Director Roz Thompson. Stories and testimonies shared during the forum will be brought to legislators, partner organizations, and other education stakeholders.

  • Dr. Scott Seaman, Executive Director, AWSP

    Scott Seaman joined AWSP in July 2013. Scott was a teacher, coach and principal for 19 years. He spent 12 of those years as Principal at Tumwater High School. Learn more about Scott.

  • Brianna Kelly, Assistant Director, Restorative Practices & Student Discipline Student Engagement & Support, OSPI

    Briana is a current AWSP member and the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices & Student Discipline at OSPI. Her role focuses on reducing disproportionate exclusionary discipline by providing training and technical assistance on discipline laws, as well as guidance and resources to implement culturally and trauma-responsive restorative practices. Before joining OSPI in 2023, Briana served as a middle school assistant principal and high school ASB leadership/AVID/English teacher. She stays engaged with students as a certified challenge course facilitator through AWSP’s Cispus Learning Center and as a senior counselor with AWSL’s Mt. Olympus summer leadership program.

  • Angela Allen, Associate Director of Learning Standards, OSPI

    Angela has been in K-12 education for 25 years and is currently the Associate Director of Learning Standards at OSPI. Angela has been a high school teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant High School Principal, Middle School Principal, Director of Secondary and Alternative Instructional Leadership and most recently a school superintendent. At OSPI, Angela hopes to build connection throughout the agency as well as supporting educators and creating equity for our students around the state, using Learning Standards as the driver.

  • Dr. David Knight, Associate Professor, University of Washington

    Dr. David Knight is an associate professor of education finance and policy at the University of Washington College of Education. His research focuses on the economics of education and school finance. He studies educational systems through the lens of economic theory and methodologies. His work emphasizes distributive justice, racial/ethnic and socioeconomic finance equity, systematic racial segregation into under-resourced school districts, and policies aimed at reducing inequality and addressing longstanding racial and income-based disparities in educational opportunity.

  • Dr. Pooya Almasi, Researcher, University of Washington

  • Kim Doepker, Principal, Garrison MS, Walla Walla SD

    Kim Doepker has worked in education for 29 years, gaining experience teaching in the classroom grades 3rd-8th, as an instructional coach, assistant principal and principal. As a seasoned principal, she is passionate about instructional leadership, growing the best in teachers and student success. In addition, she is also involved in principal mentoring through AWSP. Outside of school, Kim enjoys time with family, grandchildren, reading and staying active.

  • Jack Arend, Deputy Director, AWSP

    Jack joined the AWSP team in July 2019. He has served in education since 1989 as an elementary, middle and high school music teacher. He began his building leadership career in the fall of 2006 as the principal of Peter G. Schmidt Elementary in the Tumwater School District. After eleven years in the principalship, he served two years at the Central Office level overseeing multiple content areas and mentoring first year teachers.

  • Roz Thompson, Government Relations & Advocacy Director, AWSP

    Roz joined AWSP in June 2017. She is a state Danielson Framework specialist. She came from the Tumwater School District, where she was a Curriculum Supervisor and Professional Development Coordinator. Email Roz

  • Terrie Garrison, Principal, Firgrove Elementary, Puyallup SD

    Terrie has been a principal for over 19 years. Her first priority is that all students, families, staff, and community members feel they belong at Firgrove and are included. She believes communication is key to success and values inclusion, courage, and teamwork. Terrie hosted Senator Claire Wilson in January of 2024 for a "Principal for a Day" event and serves on the AWSP Board.
